The Battle Dress Uniform (BDU) is a camouflaged combat uniform that was used by the United States Armed Forces as their standard combat uniform from the early 1980s to the mid-2000s. Since then, it has been replaced or supplanted in every branch of the U.S. Armed Forces.

The Battle Dress Uniform (BDU) perfectly combines functionality and durability. It serves as a favorite among public safety professionals and other tactical operators. With tons of pockets and durable rip-stop fabric, BDU pants inspired the many styles of tactical pants available today. BDU-style uniforms and derivatives still see widespread use in other countries, while others are still worn by some U.S. federal, state and local law enforcement agencies or activities who may work in tactical situations. The reason for the BDU´s long life span, is its simple and effective design: robust materials, effective camouflages and its comfortable fit.

The 6-Color Desert Pattern is one of the most popular arid camouflages. Originally developed in 1971 and widely used by the U.S. Army in the 1980s during desert exercises and warfare activities (especially during the Persian Gulf War). Being made of a base pattern of light tan and sand, covered with broad patches of pale olive green and wide two-tone bands of brown, dotted with small black-on-white spots that mimic the appearance of rocks, the overall look gave it a popular nickname of a "chocolate chip" or "cookie dough" camo. Although the field experience showed a limited effectiveness of this pattern, which played its part in replacing the 6-Color design to its more contemporary 3-Color version.
